Traffic Cones x FLUX

Such a nice invite to be part of a group exhibition at the Freestate Arts Festival. It was surprisingly difficult to source traffic cones and now I see them everywhere I go! What a fun shape tho’! After the show I donated them to Ferdinando’s pizzaria in Observatory as they were part of an ‘Open Streets’ event. I thought it appropriate :)

My rationale for them:

“These objects communicate its purpose via its shape and therefore a well designed tool in an urban space. By covering them with crochet they become a softer and foreign shape in a public space, that changes its functionality into a visual curiosity and perhaps a silly prank. It aims to question the ‘danger’ or ‘warning’ element of the original object.”
