Cutting away the horizontal thread of a piece of fabric (called the weft) exposes the vertical thread or base of fabric (called the warp). I wanted to expose what the fabric was made up of, just like pulling apart a toy to see how it was put together. When doing this, it looked so similar to a leaf’s vessels/channels. I worked with the Delicious Monster leaf shape because of its interesting outlines and organic feel.
The Exposed Delicious Monster explores with the similarities in the base structure of organic matter and woven fabric.
Fabric hand cut and with vertical threads exposed.
