This was something I did when first starting out on my journey experimenting with craft techniques. It felt like hand craft was definitely an unsung hero (or a uncool cousin) in the world of design and living in the city I felt that I needed to do something to change the way people saw crochet & knitting. I discovered the yarn graffiti movement in America and felt a complete kinship with these pioneers and their work. I wanted to introduce Cape Town (and South Africa) to this exciting way of rebellious crafting.
At the same time the ‘MyCiti’ public transport system was introduced (after first piloting at the Soccer World Cup 2010) and had a super slow start. I wanted to show my support and get people excited about using the bus (and hand craft). It was the first yarn bomb in Cape Town and (I think) South Africa and one of the projects I’m most proud of still.
