Commissioned by Le Quartier Français in Franschhoek to cover 2 pairs of Springbok horns for their new bar lounge space.
Working with the horns of South Africa’s national animal gave me new respect for the beautiful antelope of Africa. Antelope generally use their horns as a weapon when in competition with another but are shaped to avoid skull injuries in the fight – it becomes more about the power display of the ritual than about harming another in the herd.
The texture of the horns was especially interesting and by sculpting it to follow the curves, the work becomes a second protective skin.
